My wife and I will be relocating to Nashville within the next few months and are looking at house just NE of the 155 (Briley Pkwy) and 24, maybe 1 mile NE. I have consulted the Nashville PD website and it wasn't great or too terribly bad in respect to crime. I was just wondering if I could get resident sentiment on this area in respect to cleanliness, crime, and overall desirability. Additionally, would this area be ideal for a young Caucasian couple with a 2 year old child?

I don't know the area that well (so take what I say lightly), but I do go by that area at times. It may not be a "bad area" but it may not be a great one either. You'd want to somewhat cautious about buying a house there. It would be a convenient location.

Someone else may have better information about the area than I do.

The best thing for you and your wife to do before you purchase a house is to research and visit the area personally. Look at the houses, how well they are maintained, how clean the area is. Talk with people in the neighborhoods you are looking at. Find out the local police precinct that covers that area and go talk with the officers there. People have different opinions regarding cleanliness and desirability. They also have different opinions regarding crime. If you are coming from a high crime area, the new area may seem low crime. If your coming from a low crime area you may think differently. Although I'm a realtor I don't work that area and am not that familiar with it. Find a reputable realtor and get information as to what housing is doing in the area you are interested in. What has happened with prices of houses sold over the past year? How long are houses on the market compared to previous time periods? Visit the elementary school that your child would go to if you lived in that area. Talk with the staff there and get a feel for how they run the school. Check the school test scores on the internet. All of this you can do yourself and get a much more accurate feel for the area. Hope this helps. If you enjoy where you live now you will probably enjoy Nashville.

Gbone, it would be great if you ran across a fellow agent that works this area and asked a few questions about the area. That would be an excellent contribution to the Nashville board!

I agree with gbone. It is best to actually visit the area personally. Most real estate agents will gladly drive you through many different areas surrounding Nashville to help you get a better feel of the areas in addition to showing you homes of interest. And as he mentioned also, most agents, even those who know the area best, will also give you sources of information or websites to perform your own research about specifics like crime, schools, etc. We should all have access to statistics for your particular area of question in regards to home sales, etc. but when it comes to matters of opinion we will recommend you talk with others to arrive at your own judgment. The best thing to do when evaluating which area to move is to give an agent your complete list of requirements and needs in a home. A good listener will take all of your criteria in consideration when selecting homes to show you.
