I know that there are quite a few of these type of posts, but my situation is a little unique. I am getting sick of the MidWestern winters and am moving within the next year or so. My job situation is that I will keep my current job, just as long as I am within about an hour of an airport, it doesn't matter too much where I live. I love to hunt, fish, camp etc. I have been to Nashville twice on a couple of 3 or 4 day jobs, and I do like the people. I would like to keep the rent down below $900 a month for some type of 1 or 2 bedroom with a garage and still not have to worry a whole lot about any violent crime or anythng too bad. I wouldn't living a bit outside of Nashville. I am a mid 40's straight male with no kids living with me, so I really only need to worry about the 8 or 9 days a month I'm at home. If you have any suggestions, comments etc I would appreciate the help.

You'll have plenty of options with all that you listed. I would do a search on areas to live and just go from there. Padmapper or a good rental agent should help with renting a house, unless you're looking for an apartment. Just hit the search function.

Probably be tough finding a garage in your price range close to the city but within an hour, you might. Apartment complexes here might have carports. The other issue is transportation to the airport. Were you going to leave your car in a long term lot? Not a lot of taxis go too far out from the city. There is an airporter service but again, it's limited and I think rather pricey (like $45 each way)? Is the garage a deal breaker? Tight rental market here with average rent around $1,000.

Hopefully someone who lives a bit outside the city will chime in with ideas! Where would you be moving from?

Based on your hobbies, i'm guessing you have outdoor equipment/toys you would need to store securely while you're away.

This is one example (the only one I could find) of a rental condo with a garage that is on the side of town close to Percy Priest Lake:

It's a bit over your price range, though, but not far from the airport.

The garage is going to narrow down your choices significantly.

Yeah I could do without the garage if need be. It isn't a deal breaker or anything. I've looked on line at various places but I was trying to get a feel from people who know the areas a bit. Just another tool in looking at a move! Any areas to definitely avoid? Any areas to look positively on?

Get with a realtor and look out by Lebanon. Your price range is low for a garage anywhere, but your best bet is out in the sticks.

You could rent a 1-BR apartment in Mt. Juliet for less than $900/month. I know that both Aventura and Deerfield (both in the Providence area just off I-40) are within that price range, and both offer garages as well. You would be just a few miles from both Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake. You would be within a 15-minute drive of the airport. Safe and quiet.

Best wishes wherever you land!
