As stated, we may be moving to Nashville. Job will be in downtown. We have a 14 yr old and two 12 yr olds. All boys. Looking for the best schools (sports, too - primarily basketball) and the best area of town to raise a family. We're both white collar professionals - wife is IT, I'm investments.

Our priorities are low crime, quality of life, and education.

Thanks.

A lot will probably depend on your budget but the usual favorites are Franklin, Brentwood, Hendersonville, Mt Juliet, Smyrna.

Thanks. Are those in the order of preference?

Any particular high schools that stand out above the rest?

Thanks again.

If you go to the main page of the Nashville forum, you will see the blue "Search this forum" tab on the right side.

Just enter your keywords, "high schools" or "youth sports" and you will get TONS of very recent info on these topics.

Going by the most recent US News rankings, the best high schools are in Williamson County.

I have set this ranking to show only public, non-magnet schools.

Search Tennessee High Schools | US News

You can search the list for schools in other counties.

Not sure. We're in a 3800 sq ft/$375k house right now. But we'd really like to downsize in both price and sq footage.

Any interest in private schools or planning to use public schools?

Many people recommended the suburbs for public schools (particularly Williamson County including Brentwood, Franklin and Nolensville). You may be able to get a smaller house for less than $375 in Franklin on a small lot.

If you'll both be working in Nashville and can afford private schools, I'd suggest staying in the city and maybe looking for a home in the West Meade, Bellevue or Crieve Hall areas.

Even if you'll use public schools, Nashville is supposed to have some very good magnet high schools, especially Hume-Fogg Hume Fogg Home Page

You can definitely get into a nice house in Franklin for under 375.
