Hi!! I'm considering a move to the Nashville area with my brother. We are both in our mid 20's and loooove music and everything it has to offer. We're looking for the best neighborhood to fit our lifestyle. LGBT friendly is a must, low crime rate, we like going out but also enjoy staying in for a movie or get together with friends. Hoping to get a good place for $1600 or under if possible. If anyone has any suggestions that would be fantastic!!

East Nashville, Green Hills, anywhere around Vanderbilt/West End, Hillsboro Village, 12South. These are all gay friendly areas for the most part.

good luck with your move

Downtown, the Gulch, and Germantown are also good areas in addition to those that soulful listed. I lived in Germantown and there were several gay couples on my block. The Werthan Lofts also seemed to be pretty popular with the LGBT community. It's also a good location to be right between gay nightlife options on Church St (Play, Tribe, Canvas) and East Nashville (Mad Donna's, Lipstick Lounge)

Hmmm....I'll agree with what soulful said. I was perplexed when you said "LGBT friendly AND low crime rate". That's kind of an oxymoron. BUT, it all depends on what you consider low crime rate. You're going to have to live close in to the city if you want a neighborhood that has a larger percentage of LGBT people. My partner and I live in Edgefield (East Nashville)....two blocks from the projects. We've lived here for 3 years and haven't had any problems. I think any of the neighborhoods soulful mentioned would work.

Here's my take on what would be different between them:
East Nashville-High concentration of gay people, liberal, very accepting. Fun bars and restaurants. Higer crime rate.
Green Hills-Gay people do live there...but so do lots of other people. Most have money. People may or may not be liberal. Lower crime.
Vandy/Hillsboro-Gay people, yes....lots of college students, yes....somewhat transient, yes. May not be as easy to make friends with your neighbors.
12South-the newer kid on the block. Very trendy. Gay people, yes. Not a huge area. Some really cool places there.
Germantown-Gay friendly, yes...lots of new development on the horizon. Small, but really nice. I would put it in the same category as East Nashville as far as crime.

I think with your budget, you should have some options. I would visit these areas and see which one feels right for you.

Good Luck
