I'm tossing it out here... looking to buy a house for around 150k with character and a lot of at least half an acre. One person, but 1600 s.f. would be ideal. Glencliff and Hermitage areas have been interesting for this. What other neighborhoods do you suggest to look?

Are you wanting to stay in Nashville/Davidson County or have you looked further out into the outlying counties? I guess you might also should define what a house "with character" looks like...historic? fixer-upper? That can mean a lot of things to a lot of people I think.

I'd look in Donelson and Goodlettsville in Davidson County. In fact, I know of a home (not on the market) in Goodlettsville that is exactly your description and would go on the market around $140,000 or so probably.

Here's a recent article from The Nashville Ledger that names some of the up-and-coming 'hoods that might give you a good return on your investment. These may be worth checking out for you.
