I "liked" the Franklin, Tn facebook page a while back..I have been surprised to see how much crime is posted on there. I guess as much as Franklin is promoted as the place to be, and how "small town" it feels, I was just surprised. Stuff like gun held to a waiters head (although apparently the 2 involved had issues), a home invasion, etc
I know crime happens everywhere...
From those of you that live in Franklin, what is the overall feel of crime in the area?
ps...Also, I also recently heard that Knoxville has a big meth problem. First I had heard that...Does that seem to be a true statement?

it is very safe. I actually like the Franklin FB page. It is usually good about alerting tornado warnings, events as well as when the cops successfully catch criminals, etc.

I feel very safe in Franklin, but maybe that's because we moved from a place where drivebys and armed robbery were *normal*. The police in my old city frequently "escorted" me home from the subway after dark driving right next to me as I walked.

Most crime in Franklin seems to have a "personal" element to it. Not much random crime. I'd be willing to bet yesterday's home invasion had something to do with drugs and the victim knew his assailants or knew the person who sent them.

All of the murders that I've seen reported since we moved here have been domestic violence related.

I think that people also forget how large Franklin is...the city itself has over 60,000 and Cool Springs is a mecca for the whole 1.6 million metro region. Of course there's going to be crime but I think the rates are pretty low for the size.

I guess one way of looking at it is, a home invasion or an assault is still considered newsworthy in Franklin. If you live in a city with a real crime problem...they don't even mention this stuff because it's so ho-hum.

Franklin Police Arrest Home Invasion Suspect

22-Year-Old Franklin Man Held on $65,000 Bond

Franklin, TN – During the overnight, police arrested Corey Edward Brown, 22, of Franklin in connection with Monday afternoon’s violent home invasion robbery.

Brown, one of three men who forced their way into the home at 4349 South Carothers and beat the man inside, was arrested late last night and charged with Especially Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Assault. A shotgun was discharged inside of the home by one of the suspects during the attack, butno one was struck. Three long guns were recovered from the home where Brown was arrested. The victim in this case helped police to identify Brown, a convicted felon, as one of his attackers. Detectives are investigating new leads, putting them one step closer to identifying the two remainingsuspects.

Corey Edward Brown
Date of Birth: 12/20/1988
4351 Trinity-Peytonsville
Franklin, TN 37067

Investigators have determined that this was not a random attack, but that the Franklin home was targeted by the three men who have ties to the victim. Brown is being held on a $65,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on 08/30/2011 at 2:00 pm.
