I'm finally making my way to Nashville this weekend (from Philly) and I was wondering if anything fun and interesting was going on this weekend?
I am staying in Nashville but have rented a car so we won't mind driving a bit to see a few things. Any great restaurant suggestions would be great as well.
Thanks!!

If you can, pick up a copy of the Friday Tennessean newspaper. There's a Weekend section in the Friday paper with list of things to do and some restaurant review. Also, pick up a free copy of the Nashville Scene; it lists a lots of restaurants and clubs.

I would probably suggest walking around the lower Broad, Second Avenue, Riverfront area. Maybe stop in the Wildhorse or one of the other places. It's a little "touristy" but you might enjoy it. If you like country music, there's several places we can suggest. You might also enjoy some of the places along 21st/Hillsboro Road, or around the Midtown area (stop at Centennial Park). Visiting the Opryland Hotel (just to visit, not to stay) might be of some interest. It's kind of nice to go over to the Farmers Market/Becentennial Mall. It's a nice place to take a break and take a few photos of Nashville (eat at Swett's if you go to the market).

You may have picked a rather uneventful weekend to visit. After all the 4th of July activities, I don't know of much scheduled. Or at least, I can't think of much. They've had all sort of fun things lately but it seems likely there's fewer really nice things to do during July and August (the heat probably has a lot to do with that).

Here's a few restaurant ideas.

Rotier's near Centennial Park for a cheeseburger and an old-fashioned shake.

The Loveless Cafe out on Highway 100. It doesn't look that impressive but you'd be surprised at who has eaten there. By the way, I live a couple of miles from the Loveless.

Monell's.

Provence Bread & Cafe.

You might also like visiting the Music Row area. And there might be a flea market at the Farmer's Market; they used to have one on the weekends.

And if you want to see how the "other half" lives, you could drive through Belle Meade (slowly, by the way) and try to find Al Gore's house.

You might also check out Percy Priest Lake and see if anything is happening out there; sometimes there's sailboat races and that sort of thing.
