My family and I (3 young children) are planning a vacation in the middle of March to Myrtle beach. We would like to stay somewhere inexpensive, beachfront, with a kitchen. Where are safe areas, not crowded beaches, and family friendly activities. I have read in other threads about N. Myrtle and Garden City? We are planning on staying a week. Thanks for any help!

March is a good time to go ... before school is out. You should be able to get a better rate too. I don't know what motels consider the off-season now. You may have to call to check on the rates for 2009.

Are you looking for a house or condo rental or motel/hotel? I have tried to give you a range of options but most are located in Myrtle Beach ... someone else will have to provide you with the Cherry Grove, Crescent, Ocean Drive (which is North MB.)

Coral Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach is a family motel/hotel . They have plenty of things to do without leaving the place.

Coral Beach

I think they have remodeled the Sea Mist ... this is another family oriented motel/hotel with everything to entertain the family on the premises.

Sea Mist

Springmaid may be priced more reasonable ... not sure about that anymore ... here is their website you can look through and call them.

Springmaid Beach

We have stayed in all of these places in the past ... they are safe ... on the beach and plenty of fun things to do.

We use to stay at the Kingfisher in Garden City (south of MB.) It's located on the beach, next to the fishing pier and in the heart of Garden City.

Kingfisher Inn

The campgrounds have rentals if you are interested in that (trailers, mobile home & houses) but they don't have the 2009 rates posted yet.

Ocean Lakes

Pirateland Campground

Others with rentals available:

VRBO (http://www.vrbo.com/ - broken link)

Rose Real Estate

Enjoy your vacation!

MB is still fairly quiet in March, and don't expect the ocean water to be warm. That said, Broadway at the Beach and other activities will be diverting for the kids. As for safety, it should not be an issue near the hotels along the beach (although in this economy, there is no telling whether people will be drowning their sorrows in the local bars). When our kids were young, we spent time in MB in March and April and never had a problem. You shouldn't either.

Island Vista is very nice but has great off season rates and doesnt have any other hotels around it so it is very quiet.

Huntington Gardens is a zoo-gardens maybe good. MB ripleys aquarium, you can pet stingrays, and go in an underwater tube. MB has family dining. If Hard Rock Park is open Iit has tons of kiddie coasters and rides.
