Earth, Wind, and Fire - Magnetic. Off of perhaps the 2nd worst Earth, Wind, and Fire album (that honor goes to the atrocious Heritage album). Back in 1983, in a desperate attempt to keep up with the time, EWF abandoned the horn section, and experimented heavily with electronics and synthesizers. We even see the video attempt to recreate Blade Runner. It's all so forced, but it's a nice peak at how many bands in the 70s were struggling to make a footprint in the 80s
How is this for unheard-of? It has been bugging me all day, and with the assistance of Google, here it is. There was a radio station in the Phoenix area, KDJQ, that played "off the wall" New Wave. This was one of their songs, and while it was released in late 1979, it's close enough to 1980 when it was receiving extensive airplay. The band is a 2 Tone ska group known as The Selecter, spelled that way, "er", not "or". Pauline Black on vocals. "On My Radio".
