Yes it was. He talked through the whole song. Granted...Smith was a funk writer. But "this" song was not funk. Matter of fact the 'izzle" slang he uses is used by many rappers even today.

At that time, the song was funk and nowdays, the rappers have used the slang. Maybe a precursor to rap, but the song when it came out, was not rap. Frankie was a funkand soul/RB musician.
