The Philly Soul era was the last grandstand of truly orchestrated music in the mainstream industry before the beatboxes, synthesizers and electric guitars completely took over. Most music fans and experts say Philly Soul is what segwayed us into the disco era, thanks to its sweeping strings and pericing horns (common element in disco music when it first went mainstream). If anything, this type of music has been somewhat underrated throughout time IMO. That's likely because many people aren't huge fans of the lyrics/messages in a lot of the songs, but the arrangements in these songs are top notch and we'll likely never have arrangements done that well again.
I pretty sure every person who loves music has at least ONE Philly Soul song they love. So feel free to post them here in this thread and discuss them.
