Hell ya hip hop will make it through the next decade and then some!!! Hip hop has been the most influential music on this generation and the last (even though not always good). Just looking at the number of old school and underground videos people are posting on here shows that people get the real essence of hip hop and not just the cheesy sh*t the radio nazis play. I think in the day and age of digital music, the internet will push hip hop into the next generation and hopefully turn underground artists into mainstream staples. Real fans are getting sick of the same ol' same ol' on the radio and renovation will be key to hip hop's survival, but rest assure hip hop is far from dead, it's just nappin for a minute!
I think so. Its still big industry. Some how it made through the first years of the 2000s despite the fact that the older hip hop heads declared it dead or at least on a respirator. If rap music as we know it die, I think some other form of music has to replace it for popularity among the urban demographic. If not, it'll still be here. It will continue to evolve.
I won't bash newer hip hop music but my "era" was from the late 80s to the mid 90s. I'm 30 yrs old and grew up listening to this stuff. Imo I can say that the music isn't as sincere or edgy as it use to be but hopefully it will get better again. At least for the younger generation. Reciting words or rhyming over music existed before "Hip Hop" was coined a term and indeed if it goes away, I think at least that element could remain in whatever type of genre.
