Default Janet Jackson - Anytime Anyplace

... stars played as jokes were shared... funny
stories released easy laughter... roses shook in
the breeze... giving ease in such aromas... silly
games that children play were the source of our
entertainment...

... and in the dew came a moment when I knew
our path must fork or be changed forever...

Exile - I Wanna Kiss You All Over

YouTube - Exile - I Wanna Kiss You All Over (1978)

.. she saw it in the change of my eyes... a soft gasp..
a tearful turning away... an understanding touch...
... desperate kisses on fingertips... a cupped cheek...
... a shake of the head to questioning eyes... a step
away... and a wave of hand...

... and I ask myself....
what made me think that a world could be...

...where humans reached out in each other's
moments... wanted oneness in one another's
moments... with no questions asked and the
comfort given...

to love with complete passion and yet detachment
too... all at the same time... filling one's life cup
with compassion... ahhh Lord so many justifications
the intellect creates... to not get involved...

...and yet I got involved and am now the richer for it...
why does such knowledge escape the intellect and
only reveal itself thru the heart...

... what did that experience cost me but an hour of
time... nothing deeply personal shared... what did
it cost her but a new belief and perspective about
love and its mysteries...

...has it always been possibly just this easy
Parents... to be parents to one another...

Janet Jackson - Anytime Anyplace - (R. Kelly Remix)

YouTube - Janet Jackson "Anytime Anyplace" (R. Kelly Remix)

... glances up at the night skies... have several
hours before dawn... might as well explore the
dwelling fully before leaving it's comfort possibly
forever...

pulls back the netting ... stepping thru... letting rose
laden breezes ripple the fabric in one big wave...

thank ya for your kind thoughts... they
warm the soul!

I got ta thinkin bout what ya were sayin
'bout troubled times and my way of gettin
through em...I've got a belief that the Lord
don't put me through nothin that I can't make
it through ... and no matter how hard it
gets, I gotta keep a song and some joy in
my heart... Can't let bad times wring that

Now that ain't sayin that I'm smilin nonstop
from sun up to sun down, just means in
spite of rough times, I'm gonna take least
5 minutes in a day and remember good times
and pull that feelin all around me... put all
my heart and soul in somethin that makes me
happy ...do something for somebody else...
yeah... nodding... for that time my troubles
is gone...

...so try give 5 minutes doin somethin for
somebody else... even that little bit will
make a difference...but if you do all those
5 minutes, which is less than an hour, things
change for ya... at least for the moment...

For a Saturday, I thought some Dave Brubeck might be nice. Brubeck loved to experiment with things--meters, genres, you name it. His quartets were legendary. One of his long-running and most endearing players was the alto sax player Paul Desmond. Desmond probably had a purer and "cleaner" tone on alto saxophone than most any other jazz player.

Here's a few tunes.

First, is "Koto Song," originally from the "Jazz Impressions of Japan" album. This is Brubeck experimentation at its best.

YouTube - Dave Brubeck - Koto Song - 1966

Next, Brubeck and Desmond show that they can treat a standard ballad with all of the respect it deserves--"For All We Know."

YouTube - Dave Brubeck - For All We Know - 1972

Third, Brubeck's great version of "Someday My Prince Will Come."

And, Brubeck and Desmond play "Over the Rainbow."

Finally, we leave Dave Brubeck to hear Paul Desmond. First, he plays the theme from "Black Orpheus" with the great guitarist, Jim Hall.

Last, we hear Desmond on one of his last recordings, playing "Mr. Shuck and Jive" on Art Garfunkel's album, "Watermark," a compilation of Jimmy Webb tunes. Desmond was great right to the end.
