I'm pretty sure I'm moving to Phoenix, I'm 15, and I'm really into music, Rock music generally, and I'm just wondering, what is the music scene (I hate the word "scene" but it works here) in Phoenix? Is music important there? Would it be easy for me to find some competant musicians my age?

I have ties to the area. I talk to a friend in Mesa daily. The music scene was once good with the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments but now it's in trouble with a bunch of emo pukes. I think that Awful band Jimmy Eat World is from Mesa. There is a Punk club on 7th avenue and Mcdowell that has some cool bands but otherwise nothiong special. There is hope however. You are 15 and I hope you don't like emo pop punk puke! Go down there and change it.

Put it this way, noone moves to Phoenix for the music scene. If I were you Id spend every waking minute in SoCal on the weekends for better scenes.

A band I really liked from Phoenix was the Meat Puppets.

I'm an old rocker but I still love it. If you have a choice of where you are moving, Phoenix is not the place to build a music career. The clubs that do have music pay squat and the musicians for the most part are....well...let me just say I havent found many level headed people seriously into it. and there really isnt any viable scene for any body to get into. If I were young again and looking to build my career, this wouldn't even be on the list of potential places I would choose to go.
