With a few exceptions, I have little interest in rap as a musical genre. However, it would be ridiculous to dismiss an entire movement purely on the basis of preference. Music evolves over time, incorporating elements from different styles, thus creating new subgenres in the process.

I’m not a big fan of punk either, yet I recognize it as one of the most important musical genres to have emerged over the past 40 years. It’s footprint can be felt all the way from new-wave to thrash metal and beyond.

Rap? Musical genre?

Rap "music" is a contradiction of terms.
