I have no idea where else to ask this, but I kinda need to know the answer, and figure this may as well be the best place to ask...
Looking at inner city youth, mostly African American but others as well, what musical instruments tend to interest them most? I know music tends to be a strong interest in the city, but I am not so sure about instruments themselves. Guitars are quite popular in the suburbs, but that does somewhat reflect a kinda white point of view.

Black Jade, it sounds like you think his question was ridiculous because of all the great black pioneers of guitar rock. I thought it was a good question, personally.
My HS class of 175 didn't have a single black student in it. Many of my friends got into playing guitar, all aspiring to be the next Jimmy Page. Some of us played bass or piano. I wouldn't know for sure, but I'd think in a high school that's over a third black (or Hispanic), there would be a lot fewer Zeppelin-loving guitar shredders.
My stereotype is young black males being into rap, and young black girls being into singing. But maybe someone with actual experience can enlighten us? What instruments do inner city kids enjoy playing?

I did think it was ridiculous....I could post many more. I even left off Prince. My point being there is no reason why they "can't". Their Dads and Gramps did.....
Who do they think white guys are trying to sound like???

Duh!! lol
The question asked was "what musical instruments tend to interest them most?" "Them" being children in inner city high schools. Nobody's answered that one yet.

It doesn't get anymore "inner city" than Gary Indiana. What are Mike and Janet's brothers? Chop liver?
