Just found out that Chi Cheng, the bassist of the Deftones, one of my favorite bands and IMHO one of the best hard rock/metal bands ever, passed away this morning at the age of 42.

He's been in a partially-conscious state since a car accident in 2008, making occasional and gradual progress from where he'd ended up; ever the realist, I knew it was unlikely if not impossible that he'd ever recover fully, but it's still jarring to hear nonetheless.

Rest in peace, and thanks for accompanying me through some of the most memorable, best and worst times of my life through your music.

Very sad, I knew he was in a coma for a long time, hopefully he is in a better place. I really love the Deftones.

I was optomistic, hoping that he would make some sort of recovery. At least now, he's no longer in pain.
