What was the last musical artist / band you really got excited about - the kind where you just considered their catalogue to be a treasure trove of riches?
Right now I'm feeling that about Stephen Sondheim's musicals. So far I have (chronologically) Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins. Far as I can tell, only the last of these is short of a masterpiece, and it's still a lot of fun. My college library has all his major works except A Little Night Music, and I've ripped them all and am madly excited to listen to the rest. His interviews are fun too.
I doubt I've been THIS excited since I heard the entire Genesis catalogue about 5 years ago.
Also ripped all of Benjamin Britten's operas since Peter Grimes is so amazing. The rest of them may well suck, I don't know.
Magdalen Fossum ~ She's not recording yet, but I hope she will, especially while she's very young; she has a distinctive voice that undoubtedly will be changing, but I certainly hope her style and choices do not.
I have to thank this site for renewing my enthusiasm about looking for new artists, as well as encouraging me to revisit old favorites and to share them with the people here. I had been so discouraged with the music I saw and heard on TV, but visiting YouTube consistently, I'm weeding out new sounds to enjoy. I even managed to squeeze a couple of CDs into my itty bitty budget but must be careful not to overdo it. I can always watch/listen at YouTube and this Music forum=}
