I have to second Urban Cowboy and Smokey and the Bandit (yes I have some Southern roots!). Also I like John Williams - Empire Strikes Back and Gustavo Santaolalla - who did a lot of Brokeback Mountain (a few period songs, too). My top movie theme of all time is How the West Was Won. Also like Sons of Katie Elder and Johnny Guitar.

This all seems odd because I really don't like Westerns that much any more. I am more of a 1930s and 1940s movie buff -- constantly watching TCM. So let me add Berlin goodies such as "Top Hat" "Easter Parade" and "Alexander's Ragtime Band" (this would make a great stage musical - and it has "The Merm"!

Does Quadraphenia count? The movie came out a few years after the album..maybe (kind of a suckie movie, had a few good parts - rocker vs. mod riots), I can't even remember if there was a seperate Quadraphenia soundtrack.
In that case I nominate Pink Floyd's "The Wall" soundtrack.

If we go that route then I can also nominate "The Kids are Allright" and "Woodstock" and "Rust Never Sleeps" and "Stop Making Sense" and "Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" and "The Last Waltz" and...
