You may not know this, but Eddie Van Halen, Valerie Bertinelli and Patty Smyth (Scandal) were good friends. When David Lee Roth left Van Halen, she was offered the lead vocalist job before Sammy Hagar. She didn't take it for various reasons (namely, she's a teetotaler who was also very pregnant at the time). She did work with EVH at one time, as he appeared as a guest at a Scandal concert:
