Lady sings the blues
I'm telling you
She's got them bad
But now the world will know
She's never gonna sing them no more
'Cause the blues ain't nothing but a pain in your heart
When you get a bad start
When you and your man have to part
Ain't gonna just sit around and cry
I know I won't die
'Cause I love him
The very first copyrighted blues song - Hart Wand's Dallas Blues
The term "the blues" refers to the "blue devils", meaning melancholy and sadness; an early use of the term in this sense is found in George Colman's one-act farce Blue Devils (1798).Though the use of the phrase in African American music may be older, it has been attested to since 1912, when Hart Wand's "Dallas Blues" became the first copyrighted blues composition. In lyrics the phrase is often used to describe a depressed mood. Blues - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(During Santana's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the surprise of the evening was the song's composer, Peter Green, playing with Santana. Exactly how the union came about escapes me, but it must have taken considerable persuading considering Peter Green's sad interim between his years as the founder/guiding force of the original Fleetwood Mac and his striking enough 1990s and 2000s comeback. He still makes credible blues---he always did; this was the guy who was once considered Eric Clapton's most serious rival as a British blues guitarist, and some say he was superior for his manner of playing only the notes needed, which is what I admire about him, too---but he's notoriously reluctant to accept himself as anything other than a musician.)
This one TOTALLY caught me off guard (Jim ought to love this)
