These are still good to watch.

And near the end of Trading Places, Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy are walking across the Plaza of the World Trade Center to the Commodities Exchange, which was located at the WTC at the time. Nice shot of place that's gone now for those who remember.

I introduced my husband to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987) . He usually prefers to watch action movies but he was laughing out at this one.

Heathers (1988) is weird but interesting.

I also like little independent films. Some of these might appeal more toward women, though.

I was very fond of a little movie called The Gig (1985) with Wayne Rogers, but it's only available on VHS, not DVD. It's not even on YouTube. It's about some middle-aged men who get a chance to play jazz in the Catskills, and the experience is unexpectedly unsettling. A "lost" gem.

Ruby in Paradise (1993), one of my favorites, is also not available on DVD.

Apparently if they are intelligent films about middle-aged men or about real women (not bimbos) they won't put them on DVD. However, Hot Dog: The Movie is widely available.

Ruby in Paradise is a very quiet film of a young woman's search for independence, starring a young Ashley Judd in an excellent performance:

I also like Can't Buy Me Love (1987), one of the few intelligent teen comedies of the 1980s. See McDreamy before he was dreamy!
