I believe you mean "Key Largo" -- both films are great, though.

I'd have to second pretty much everything listed so far. You can't go wrong with most of Hitchcock's American work (and a couple of his British films, too).

One I don't see mentioned is "Touch of Evil", 1958. Kinda both a comeback and last gasp for Orson Welles. If you can suspend your disbelief and accept Charlton Heston as a Mexican it's a great film.

Fritz Lang's 1927 silent classic Metropolis. Netflix has a wonderfully restored copy with the original orchestral score.

You're right Dano, realized it after I posted. Was gonna edit but didn't think anyone would notice. That says something about you or me or both of us. I liked Have and Have Not as well, but not as much as Key Largo. Bogie and Bacall, and Edward G. was great in that, as was Lionel Barrymore. Love that growl of his. Thanks. Both were based on Hemingway stories, if I got it right this time.

I don't like musicals, but Singin' in the Rain (1952), is the exception.

Would agree that all the ones mentioned so far as good ones. There are way too many to name, but I'll add a few I don't think have been mentioned:

Sweet Smell of Success (1957)
Birdman of Alcatraz (1962)
The Thin Man (1934)
Ace In The Hole (1951)
The Hurricane (1937)
How Green Was My Valley (1941)
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)
