They're fun, but I don't gravitate to them particularly. They just made me wish I were in a restaurant instead of in a theater. I particularly remember seeing Eat Drink Man Woman when I'd had nothing to eat so far that day, and I still remember groaning when a gorgeous meal on screen was being thrown into the garbage.
Mystic Pizza seems an odd choice to me, because it does't really feature food as a great eating experience.
Love both those movies. The FGT book actually has a recipe for fried green tomatoes.

I agree that the film does not *revolve* around eating pizza, but to me a delicious pizza really is a great eating experience. It was interesting to watch Julia Roberts' down-to-earth character coping with an tension-filled fancy dinner at her boyfriend's WASPy home, juxtaposed with scenes at the mom-and-pop restaurant where she worked.
The snobby TV food critic eloquently expounded on the virtues of the Mystic Pizza, and the recipe for it was a closely guarded secret.
The movie Big Night probably gets to the heart of things. Elaborate menus can be superb, but the art of feeding people need not be complicated. I love when he makes the omelet at the very end. As Chowhound says, food has a way of bringing people together.
Chocolat and Ratatouille are both great but when I think of food movies one always jumps to the top, an awesome Japanese movie called Tampopo. Noodles anyone?
