It is getting harder and longer to find a movie to watch at night,I am too tired to follow any movie which has a complex plot, but last nite it was a treat to watch a movie called Coyote Lake-and it is truly a movie where the underdogs win big-
A Mexican woman with her teenage half Gringo daughter run a B&B by the border close to a lake.they are selective whom they will offer shelter, they take in drug traffickers in fancy cars only.
The daughter will go to local pharmacy and refill tons of muscle relaxer, sleeping pills and sometimes painkillers, claiming her mother is often forgetfull and cant remember where she placed her prescription.
They will mix the drinks, coffee etc and the men will fall asleep, then they will slash his car looking for drug and most of the time,it has been rewarding, then they tied him up,wrapped him in plastic sheet and dumped him in the lake.
then the plot gets a little complex,2 drug dealers showed up,one has a serious bullet wound in his leg and he needs help, then the daughter falls in love with one of them and decide she will go where they go.
To make a long story shot, there was a shoot out and both men died, mom is a pro when it comes to 'doing her job'.
as usual, they dumped the bodies in the lake.
But daughter now have new ideas, she wants to leave and be with young people ,working as a cook as she can make coffee, juice ,tortilla and omelettes, not to mention mixing muscle relaxer pills in drinks).
(In the movie, they eat plenty of eggs-scrambled )
But her mother does not want her to leave, claiming they are doing a good job ridding criminals and saving mankind, plus they have not saved up enough money yet.
So daughter fixed some scrambled eggs for mom and dumped her in the lake.
Daughter broke into mom's bedroom where there is a closet which is locked, she found tons of cash,I mean tons ,Elon Musj will be jealous if he sees how much there is ,so now she is free, she put on a pretty dress, lipstick and relax in the boat after dumping mom;s body in the lake.
End of the movie

Revenge of the Nerds (1984) Lots of fun.
Ford v. Ferrari
The Longest Yard (1974 and 2005)
The Jackie Robinson Story (1950)
The Black Stallion (1979)

Not necessarily underdogs but stories about overcoming adversity that I found inspirational.

The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) The original.
Memphis Belle (1990)

I'm not sure if really they fit here but:

"Sunshine Cleaning Company" - Broken woman finds redemption and purpose in an unlikely occupation

"Office Space" - Burned out office worker frees himself from the prison of soul-sucking corporate America BS

"Departures" - Newly unemployed cellist takes a job preparing the dead for burial and finds redemption

"Door to Door" - William Macy is outstanding as Bill Porter, an inspiring and successful door-to-door salesman with cerebral palsy
