Two hours of my life wasted, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi films, most of which are awful, including this turkey.
As stated earlier, the presence of the stowaway was never really explained and neither were the details of the actual mission.
Lots of mumbled, low volume conversations, and one way communications with flight operations.
The ending was predictable, in that a valuable crew member was sacrificed, instead of the stowaway.
Did they continue to Mars, or abort?
Anna Kendrick is no threat to Meryl Streep, either.
Do these writers & directors ever stop to think about what they are putting on film, or is it constant self delusion?

I just figured it would be like Apollo 13, there is not enough fuel to abort. They would have to orbit Mars to get back home.
I usually enjoy sci-fi movies for their special effects and moral conundrums, so I gave Stowaway a chance. A misnomer, anyway, because he wasn't a stowaway--he wasn't hiding on purpose. But after a while I got tired of the drama predictability and lack of space logic, so I fast-forwarded until the ending. It ended up being meh. Yeah, unless you need to watch every space flick ever made, no need to watch this one.
The stowaway, Michael Adams, was a member of the ground crew, his title was 'launch support engineer'. He had already earned his BS in mechanical engineering and was working on his Masters Degree, hoping to come up with some experiment that would get him on the next flight to Mars.
Michael was tasked with arming explosive bolts that would jettison "something" - what ever that something was, or why it might be necessary to jettison it wasn't made clear. Basically, the script writers inserted some technobabble.
Isn't that sorta how Dr Smith got on to the Jupiter Two?

In the original series, Dr Smith was so busy sabotaging the Jupiter Two that he ran out of time. There's no hint in Stowaway that Michael was up to nefarious purpose.
I was about to watch it but then went to IMDB and saw the the poor reviews and passed. I’ve learned to check ratings on just about every Netflix flick prior to viewing.
