So, I was rewatching this the other night (I had seen it many years ago) and while I think it's a beautiful film aesthetically speaking and I enjoyed the plot/storyline (I've never read the Edna Ferber novel; maybe I'll get around to it), there's something about it that prevents me from really admiring it.
Maybe it's the accents (I'm a southerner so they didn't sound "authentic" to me) or the length (over 3 hours long) of the film.
The highlight of course was James Dean's performance in his swan song and at least to me, the main reason to watch/rewatch Giant.

I saw it once when I was a teenager and was decidedly underwhelmed. But maybe I was just too young to appreciate it?

I've only seen parts of Dean's movies, but never liked any of it so far.

I've seen it a couple of times. I think it's good but not great. I love the line after James Dean strikes oil and brags to his enemy Bick. Someone says: ”Bick, you shoulda shot that fella a long time ago. Now he’s too rich to kill”

Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson were both so beautiful. I enjoyed seeing the culture shock when a wealthy, well-bred bride sees the reality of the wealthy western ranch "society".

I also truly enjoyed the scene of the two grandchildren ( one white & one brown) in the playpen.

Mine too. In my Top 5 or 10 for sure. About 10 years ago, I did go back and read the novel. Pretty good as well.

The scene at the end where Rock Hudson gets beat up while standing up for his son (played by a baby faced Dennis Hopper), his wife and grandchild after being refused service at the diner is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.

I love "Giant" and watch it frequently. Elizabeth Taylor is the highlight - she's SO SO good in this movie.
