At least here, all I can find is that they release the next week show times late in the current week.

Why? You buy concert tickets in advance.

I guess I just wouldn't think it be a big deal but I need to plan a little farther ahead sometimes.

If that's true, and I'm skeptical, it may suggest theaters or chains are negotiating with the distributors based on ticket sales.

I thought the last Terminator would be a smash hit. I got in the night it opened, at my favorite iPic. There were plenty of seats, usually meaning a film will be a dog based on critic reviews. Sure enough, it was a poor entry (not awful, just that dumbass 'woke' thing pretty much submarining the entire show). I think it died fast next month or so, a flop as they say. It probably wasn't at iPic more than 2-3 weeks, if box office take continued low, so why pay the huge rental fee for empty seats?

I'm guessing modern rental fees are analytics driven, week over week, as all such things can be a negotiation anymore. Why plan more than 2 weeks out, they figure.

The latest Star Wars lingered at iPic, I caught a show a week in and was thinking about a second, until it finally faded off just a few weeks ago (evening shows only, at the last, which is typical).

My answer is, "it depends!" I saw "1917" the other week, which was stupendous and thoughtful, and I assume will be around awhile: every iPic show was sold out, I snagged one of the last single seats when I had some time. I bet it's still going pretty strong, as a strong Oscar Best Picture contender (hope it wins, though I've seen few of the other contenders either).

You can buy opening week tickets in advance, but beyond that showtimes and such are probably based on the movie's performance at that particular theater. A theater isn't going to keep a movie on 5 screens if no one is coming to see it. But if its sell out every show? They might add an additional screen until it becomes less popular.

It must be your area and/or the specific movie. As you know, with both Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Engame tickets started selling out for opening weekend about one month in advance.
