Growing up, I didn't see them except in the cartoon version (they are playing in a marching band, there is a short B&W film of one of their skits, then the cartoon, then the end of the skit) on TV. I never really thought much of their comedy.
Now, however, my mind is saying that I ought to look into them. Why, I'm not sure.....maybe my mind is searching for historical comedy that it can mimic in 2-5 seconds. I do that from time to time with Wimpy from Popeye.
So does anyone know of a decent source, ie not a location of their work of hopelessly cut up or edited to smithereens, I might shop at (or even look if the copyrights are expired). I'm not really looking for the cartoon series. Streaming is not possible for me, it has to be something I can legally download such as at work or buy in a DVD or even a tape.
How extensive is your local library's DVD collection? I'd start there. Lots of Stooges classics are out on DVD.
Fair warning: I have never met a woman who liked the Three Stooges. If it turns out you do, please let us know.
Well, the two situations of them locked in memory is the skit about taking care of the horses......and then where they show up in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".
It's not necessarily a situation of liking their humor but more of something like invoking that structure of the mind into my own. It's like, I think, using Wimpy's line of "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a dance lesson today.". Just seizing the whimsical. Something like that.
I have streamed The Three Stooges episodes with my Roku. I'm not sure who provided the stream and I'm not by my Roku right now. I'll find out later today.
Michael Chiklis played Curly in a TV movie about the lives of the Stooges. It was very good as I recall, produced by Mel Gibson who is a major Stooge-Head.
Amazon has the Stooges available for streaming. If you are a Prime member, some seasons are free, others are $1.99 per episode. They are complete seasons (from the 1930s until the end) and are in the original B&W. They also have some odd individual colorized episodes.

I once had the bulk of the Curly shorts on DVD. Last spring we did a massive cleaning. I brought a big box of unwanted DVDs, video games, etc and sold them to a used record/video store. I didn't realize at the time that my Stooges DVDs somehow ended up in the box, so I inadvertently sold them
I grew up watching the Stooges with my dad who grew up watching them with his grandparents. My son is now getting to the right age to introduce them to him.
