Are sure it's US soldiers? It sound like one I watched with Russell Crowe. An Aussie father goes looking for his 3 sons that didn't return from WWI, nor were they accounted for. He did find one alive painting in a monastery.

Yes, this rings a bell. Is this the one you are referring to?

The Water Diviner

The Water Diviner is a 2014 drama film directed by and starring Russell Crowe, in his directorial debut, and written by Andrew Anastasios and Andrew Knight. The film is loosely based on the book of the same name written by Andrew Anastasios and Dr. Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios. It follows an Australian farmer, Joshua Connor (Crowe), who travels to Turkey soon after World War I to find his three sons who never returned.

I searched on something like the following:
movie war "three brothers" island painter

If you can remember any more specifics that is what you can search on. Just add them to the list in one line and hit search.

Hey "Florian" not for nothing but...where are you, hmm?

Have you discovered the film you were searching for? If so I think maybe some of us would be curious as to the name of it, I know that I would...just out of curiosity.

Hey thanks for remembering the film------ you and the other poster who provided the link. Movie sounds intriguing. Maybe the OP will come back to let us know for sure, but it sounds like the right movie.

I hate that. When an op posts, sometimes for advice or with a question and never comes back. It happens often enough that I sometimes dont want to post or read anymore.......poo.
