What is a great movie you are shocked more people have not seen? Or maybe a movie that is way better than people remember?

I am shocked to run into so many people who have never even heard of this movie --- and it's easy to make the basic premise sound super corny. But it is a surprisingly great '80s action thriller:

Dance Me Outside (1994)

This Canadian drama based on a book by W.P. Kinsella, examines the tension between Indians and Anglos in Canada from an Indian perspective. Silas Crow, who lives on a Northern Ontario reserve, wants to take a mechanic's course in Toronto with his friend Frank Fencepost. But before he can enroll, the teen must write a short narrative describing his home. The film is a series of vignette's from Crow's narrative. The vignette's are alternately funny and poignant.

You can watch it on
You Tube.

DH and I have seen it several times.

I'll ask him if he's ever seen Blue Thunder. I just read a synopsis and it sounds like his kind of film.

Some underseen classics:

Le Samouraï (1967)
L'Armée des ombres (1969)
Le Cercle Rouge (1970) (Jean-Pierre Melville is a must)
The Innocents (1961)
To Live (1994)
Ascenseur pour l'echafaud (1958)
The Beguiled (1971)
Séance on a Wet Afternoon (1964)
Pelle the Conqueror (1987)
Orlando (1992)
Manon des sources (1986)

I would add a string of Bergman films to that but I don't think most people would be interested in his filmography.

That is a great movie, and so beautiful it's worth watching for the scenery alone. I was surprised that Alison Elliott didn't become a bigger star. She was so good in that movie.

Pelle the Conqueror! I loved that movie!

You like French films - have you seen The Eighth Day? I thought it was fantastic!

Also I enjoyed French Kiss.

As for other foreign films, I really like a lot of German films.

Most people have never seen these two movies and they are very good. They are different from many other terrorist movies. These two movies set themselves apart and it's not even close.

Unthinkable: A battle between a terrorist and an agent during an interrogation to find out where bombs are located.

Predestination: A Time Travel cop goes on the hunt to stop a terrorist.

of the current top 100 AFI films, the highest ranked one I haven't seen is Lawrence of Arabia (#7).

I have it on tape/DVD and have watched bits and pieces of it over the years to the point of recalling the plot somewhat but as I recall it was pretty tedious and I had the constant urge to spit tiny grains of sand out of my mouth onto the carpet.
