So, the best comedies aren't always or even mostly the ones that make me laugh hard.
For example, Meet the Parents was a great movie. For a while, one of my favorites. But it didn't make me laugh hard. It's more like chuckles and nodding in acknowledgement.
Stupidity usually brings that out in me. Certain script writers can bring it out.
So, I was on a plane to somewhere and I was watching Snatched with Amy Shumer and I just found myself laughing uncontrollably, like on the plane. For some reason I cannot remember, the movie was cut off. So, I watched it later when I was at home.
And some of the jokes were just hilarious. I was splitting sides.
Admittedly, the movie itself isn't the best. Because of it, I watched the next Amy Shumer movie, I Feel Pretty, and it was horrid. Zero laughs or redeeming values.
The last movie that made me laugh my ass off was "Dirty Grandpa" with Zac Efron and DeNiro, the unrated version. Zac Efron has a knack for comedy. He has excellent timing and works well next to DeNiro.
The movie before that was "Bad Grandpa" with Johnny Knoxville. However that movie can't hold a candle to Dirty Grandpa.
I've been getting my kicks from YouTube lately. A Bad Lip Reading; White House Press Briefing is funnier than most movies. "I need a drink" "Alright idiots, are you ready" "You dummies don't matter". This is priceless comedy.
I have a list of favorite comedies which is at #81 right now. I'll put out 10 to 20 of those for CDers looking for a good conedy.
1. Buddy Buddy - Jack Lemmon & Walter Mattheau. A hitman encounters a neurotic cling-on who is wreaking havoc on his newest assignment. 1981
2. Young Frankenstein - Gene Wilder & Marty Feldman. Guess who the blind man was? Gene Hackman 1974
3. Harold & Kumar go to White Castle - John Choo and Kai Penn. One of the funniest movies ever. 2004
4. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - The sequel did not disappoint. 2005
5. Private Benjamin - Goldie Hawn & Eileen Brennan. Rich girl tricked into enlisting by recruiter. I love this movie. Goldie got her chops wet on Laugh-In. She went on to stardom. 1980
6. Bridesmaids - Maya Rudolph & Kristen Wiig. My daughter showed me this movie. I laughed so hard I hurt. 2011
7. Team America; World Police - This is an animated movie using Claymation. "Everyone has AIDS, AIDS, AIDS, AIDS. My grandma, my sister, my dog too".
8. My Cousin Vinny - Joe Pesci & Marisa Tomei. My God this movie is funny; hold your sides together funny " I can feel my biological clock tickin, tickin". 1992
9. The Money Pit - Tom Hanks & Shelley Long. This is about the comical adventures of remodeling & renovation. 1986
10. Me, Myself & Irene - Jim Carrey & Renee Zellweiger. Arguably one of Jim Carreys best roles. Renee Zellweiger shines. " She'll be eating blubber alright, as soon as I free willy". 2000
