I'll make 3 points:
1.) Minority Report is science
fiction. The fact that there is no sound in outer space doesn't make STAR WARS any less of a great movie.
2.) Actually, the jury is still out on psychic phenomena. I'll be the first to agree that 99.9999999% of so-called psychics are frauds and hucksters, but the theory behind ESP is at least plausible. Our brains are essentially bio-electric organs, and we know very little about the deeper functions of the brain and consciousness. And quantum mechanics is showing us that the universe in which we live is WAAAAAY whackier and more interesting than we used to think.
3.) You're missing the point. Minority Report's theme is not that there might be psychics. That is irrelevant. Science fiction has long been the realm where a the story uses an obvious fiction to make a larger point, and the big question Minority Report is asking is one very relevant to our society today: Is it morally ethical to punish the
intent of a crime and not the action itself? Where do we draw the line that the state cannot cross? Today, with your hyper-paranoia over terrorism and the government invading our privacy, this is an
extremely relevant point.
