Agreed. It was at least as good as every other biopic nominated for Best Picture. (Why were there so many?)

I ended up seeing all of them except for Sniper. I really feel Boyhood should have won. The plot wasn't anything earth shattering, but for me that's why I liked it so much. Real life isn't always earth shattering. Sometimes it's mundane, a lot of times actually, but it's significant for the person who is living that life. And from an artistic stand point to make a movie and show someone growing up in real life is just amazing. Birdman was fine, but I don't get the hype honestly. Definitely not movie of the year or anywhere close for me.

Boyhood is a great example of a film that clicks all the classic boxes of a great film

1.)Great Acting? Check
2.)Great directing? check
3.) Great soundtrack? check
4.)Heartwarming story? check
5.) Great concept?Check(revolutionary one to boot)

But is boring from a entertainment standpoint, and this is coming from someone who has always liked Linklater and wanted him to win best director. It's funny because it's a movie I think everyone should see once but nothing I would ever watch again or go back to

I thought it was long, but it made us have a very nice conversation as a family, about family. I have never done that before with a traditional movie. For that reason alone, I loved it. I'm very glad I did not see it at the theatre because I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much.

How sad that you'd reject all movies - and I can only also assume all books, etc. - that don't agree with your world view. Do you realize that that basic attitude is similar to what's driving Islamic extremism?

I only saw four of the nominated flicks (Birdman, Selma, Grand Budapest..., and Whiplash), but knew Birdman was a lock for the top Oscar as soon as I saw it. Pretty clear to me that despite taking place in the NYC theater world, this is a love letter to Hollywood. (Respect your Inner Birdman and all will be well!) And being strongly acted, smartly written, and brilliantly directed there was no question to me that the Academy voters would lap it up.

I do think that Ava Duvernay was snubbed royally for not getting a best director nod. Selma could have been a boring preachy biopic and she turned this story instead into a rare example of a movie that a) was exhilarating and suspenseful even though you knew the end of the story b) had full realized human beings and not one-dimensional good guys and bad guys (LBJ wasn't the devil incarnate and MLK wasn't some plaster saint) c) and had a very cool theme song, Glory, which richly deserved its Oscar. It was nice to see a movie that showed America at one of its finest moments. The movie also resonated for me on a personal level because I had so many relatives involved in the Civil Rights struggles in the '60s.

The intense Whiplash, of course, had Mr. Simmons, who was spectacularly good in a twist on the usual "good teacher saves bad student" movie formula. But Grand Budapest... left me totally cold. It was too 'effin cute and whimsical for me to get into. A tarted up coming-of-age story that did absolutely nothing for me.
