I don't go to 3d, so these are all non-3d prices. Tuesday has the $7.00 all day any movie discount. Some first movie, or first couple on Tuesday are $5.00. Senior is usually $8.00 anytime, unless it's Tuesday. Very few reasons to pay full price. Since October, I've seen 10 on the big screen (one twice). Next year I'm waiting for January 16 American Sniper U.S. theatrical release, and January 9 for Inherent Vice. Also want to see the Dardenne brother's Two Days, One Night, but it may not play or I may miss the limited release.
Big Eyes

The last movie ticket I bought cost me about $8. I stopped going to movies a few years ago after I decided it was a complete waste of money. There are very few really good movies anymore and I don't mind waiting for movies/shows to come on netflix.
I live in the suburban west valley and I don't have second run theaters that weren't circulated through colleges. The theaters are all about $7.00/7.50 for matinee (not sure on first showing) with $10 for traditional showings and $13 for 3D and I think $15/6 for IMAX showings (whether it is real or fake.) I saw a showing at the Anaheim Downtown Disney AMC theater which was $7.50 for first showing.
I've seen about 5 movies a year when I wasn't dating my ex and we'd see about 10 a semester.
We go to a local theater chain and pay $5 for tickets on Wednesday and matinees, and $6.50 any other time. Then we get a small popcorn and large soda for $5 (with free refills on both).
Another theater we sometimes go to has the same prices. Except instead of popcorn and a drink we get a small popcorn and two pints of beer for about $10.
I was stunned that major chains in New York City are now up to $14! There are a couple of indie theaters slightly less for $10-$12, I think. AMC is the only one to do cheaper matinees, but only before noon.
It's a pity that previous posters didn't include their location. It would be interesting to know if they're in big cities or small towns.
The cheap theater is $1.25, regular theater
$3.75. But we also have the AMCs that charge $9+.
