In a different movie thread I saw that someone got a movie from NetFlix and it inspired me to create this poll.

This is kind of like research for me, so I hope to get as many to participate as possible.

I don't watch DVDs that often so I go to local video store. My friend uses NetFlix.

I have NetFlix. I hate going to video stores and having to search for a movie and then wait in line to get it, and then having to drop it off again. Netflix is easy and the movies are usually here in 1 or 2 days. I have a cheap-o plan, I get unlimited movies per month, but can only get 1 at a time. But its good, and theres no late fees. I've had it for a few months now and I've watched a ton of movies for less than $10 a month. I love it!

I use Netflix. However, you should be aware that if you start turning around the movies quickly they'll slow down how fast they check them in and ship them out. This is in their terms of agreement.

My wife and I had never watched 24, so we decided we'd get up to speed. We literally watched 1 disc (4 ep) a night. My wife works down the block from the PO Netflix has their PO Box at, so she'd drop it off in the AM, Netflix would check their mail during the day, our returned DVD would get checked and a new one would ship next day. So we got a DVD every two days.

I read on a website that Netflix's break even point is around $1.50-2 per DVD per month. So when the # you rent per months drops that profit per disc amount down near the break even point, they start to slow you down. We dropped the last one off on Tue and Netflix has yet to confirm by email they received it even though I know they have. This started happening last month to us when we started going crazy and finishing a disc a day. At first they'd check them in same day but they'd hold the new disc for shipping for 1-2 days.

Hacking Netflix
For example, if all other factors are the same, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service

I voted Other, because even though I have been a Netflix member for about 4 years, I also buy DVDs that I really like.

FWIW
I always seem to have a two-day turnaround with my movies, but this might be because there is always at least one movie out of my three that I hang on to a long time, like a couple-three weeks, taking my time with it, watching the special features, even watching the entire movie all over again.

Just got notice this Thursday morning that Netflix received the 2 movies I dropped off at the post office where their PO Box is located at on Tuesday before 8am. I must really be on their sh*tlist since according to my queue they won't ship my next two disks until Friday even though they are available now.

My home DVD library is pretty vast too.

I voted for local video store because there's one in my neighborhood that I go to. There's something about going and picking out a new release movie on the day of it's street date, or talking about seeing a movie we have seen in a long while & going to pick it up at that time instead of waiting for it to come in the mail.

achtungpv & Cil, thanks for the extra information on NetFlix.

I've had Netflix for about three years now and love it. I get all my TV series through them (24, Lost, Rescue Me, The Shield) and I can't imagine having to watch them on TV. Though it means seeing them six months or so later than everyone else, it's worth it to me to be able to watch the whole season, commercial-free, all at once.
