maybe i'm the only one. but I DO NOT APPRECIATE the extra material found in "directors' cuts or extended versions" of films. a lot of the time, I wont know its an extended version until I've already bought a DVD/BluRay of a movie I like. at least, have the original version as an option on the disc, ffs. this complaint does not pertain to "unrated" versions of films.
anyway, some disappointing examples include:
Terminator 2 directors cut/extended version or whatever - none of the added scenes helped the story along whatsoever.
Conan the Barbarian - Arnold's diatribe about picking blueberries with his father. Terrible.
Friday - I bought the movie Friday in the 5 dollar bin at Walmart a couple of years ago, and tried to watch it for the first time since I bought it the other day. turns out it was a director's cut edition - all these stupid, hacky, ham-handed jokes during the opening credits... it made me hate every character in the movie and I didn't dare keep watching to see what other crap was originally scripted. I threw it away.
