Didn't I read somewhere that now they are actually targeting and making some of these movies for overseas audiences? Knowing they will flop in the US? Because overseas, especially DVD overseas is a bigger moneymaker?

It isn't so much "knowing they will flop in the US" as "not caring as much." Overseas markets are now a huge factor in movies. It's why IRON MAN 3 had a different cut in China, why the RED DAWN remake nixed Chinese invaders for North Koreans (no matter how little sense it made), and why PACIFIC RIM may get a sequel, even though it was a US box office disappointment (it did very well in Asia).
There's really no such thing as a flop any more. It's very, very, VERY hard for even a terrible movie to actually lose money. Once you factor in ticket sales, merchandising, licensing fees, cable rights, DVD sales, internet streaming rights, it is almost impossible for a movie to run in the red these days. The accountants still do it to make sure studios don't have to pay movie casts and crew as much money, but that's just accounting tricks that have nothing to do with reality.
I feel sorry for Keanu Reeves. Everyone who's ever met him says what a super nice guy he is. Very generous. Very non-Hollywood. But the poor guy just can't act.

I like him and I like some of his movies. And I find it very hard to feel sorry for a multi millionaire semi A list actor.

Ronin was a film with a huge budget that was directed by a first time director who only got the job because he was dating Ridley Scott's daughter
Does this mean she is single again?
