What took me completely by surprise in this film wasn't the ending, which you could kind of see coming a mile away, but toward the middle of the film when he calls his secretary into his office and it's Greer Garson. Floored me.
My favorite is the George C. Scott of '84 version but then I haven't seen all of them. Perhaps I'll see if they have the Patrick Stewart version on Netflix.
Yes, one of the greats. That film probably is the best of them all to pick up that whole 'Dickensian' atmosphere.

Another vote for the 1938 Reginald Owen version. Also perhaps the best supporting cast. Gene Lockhart gets my vote as the best Bob Cratchit.
