I used to love them as a teenager but I've grown tired of horror movies as I aged. But I did enjoy movies such as Evil Dead, Stephen King movies, and many of those Asian horror movies from Japan and S. Korea.
I don't watch if I am not alone. But with friends or family, I am the brave to watch. Asian horror movies are indeed scary. I find it too hard to follow the sub titles. Sometimes, I get CD/DVD from freakyfreddies, just sometimes
I've never been interested in horror movies. I've seen plenty of them, and I'm not particularly squeamish nor do I scare particularly easily, but they just don't interest me in the slightest. Much like musicals.
I don't much care for gruesome gore, but I'm willing to watch if the story and overall production values are good. The problem I have with a lot of horror movies is that so many of them are just badly made. What I really like is a well-made movie that scares the wits out of me, or can get real creepy, without resorting to graphic gore. I find that, in general, if a movie has a lot of graphic gory images, it is just stupid. There are some exceptions, however. I thought that the first couple of "Saw" movies were ok. I also like the TV series Fringe, even though the producers do enjoy throwing in some unnecessarily graphic images once in a while.
I would be interested in hearing people's favorite examples of not-so-graphically-gory movies that are super creepy or scary.
Slash 'em up horror movies are a dime a dozen and after seeing one you have seen them all.
I'm not opposed to gore. I like good special effects. I don't really scare easy so that's not why I avoid them.
I want more to my story and I want my story to be probable and believable.
There are some movies I do like that could be considered horror, like Ghostship, but horror is not a catagory I seek out.
I saw some Steven King movies in the 80s and some haunting ones more than gratutitous slashing. Now I think horror is overplayed,it's pretty much every movie now.
