this is a movie that i've never not owned. have it on VHS, paid alot of money for some sort of Deluxe Edition DVD over a decade ago, and recently picked up the Blu Ray in the $7.88 bin at Wal Mart, which led to me watching it for the first time in a long time.

i know the movie is sacred to a lot of people, but i'm not sure if it really holds up anymore.

the major flaw is that some (actually most) of the dialogue just seems so implausible and forced. (Fire it up, who busted that machine?)

i would say that the movie halfway holds up.

I wouldn't say it did that much for me, I guess it's sacred to Brandon and maybe Bruce Lee fans, I think it's tragic what happened to Brandon he was a great actor as well as a martial artist and he could have gone on to play more diverse roles.

I see eerie parallels between this and The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger as the Joker. Their characters seem eeriy similar.

fair enough. and i was young and into rock music at the time too. but if you havnt seen it in a while, take another look and just check out how forced and implausible a great deal of the dialogue is.

also, there are a couple of premises that could have stood a little bit of elaboration (mostly relating to the villains).

i dont not like the movie, i dont want to not like the movie -- it used to be one of my favorite movies. honestly though, i just dont think it completely holds up.

It had some one liners, And Micheal Wincott chewed the scenery. That was part of the appeal for me in addition to the story. A musician returns from the dead in goth garb to take get revenge on a gang in a slum that looked worse then hell. Great stuff and great action. I will say after all these years it's a bit date, Sure-But nostalgia is a strong pull in film and music.

The sequels as far as this franchise go-Awful. Should never have been done. Of course, Rumor has it they are remaking it. Good grief.
