In order for me not to hijack other movie threads, this one has no limits on number of answers in response. We are familiar with famous movie roles for actors, but what about roles in indies or relatively unknown movies...there are many roles that are odd/interesting/biographical etc.
Such as:
Harvey Keitel in Head Above Water (1996)
Andy Garcia in Modigliani (bio re artist)
Uma Thurman in A Month at the Lake
Barry Pepper in The Snowwalker
Al Pacino in Panic in Needle Park (his first starring role)
James Spader in Secretary
Curt Jurgens as the German U-Boat commander in "The Enemy Below" playing against Robert Mitchum as the US captain. Great acting by both.
Gene Hackman in a support role in "Reds" - he stole the show.
Jeff Bridges in "Seabiscit" as the owner. Nominated, but no cigar.

Reason: Wrong movie cited
Been so long since I have seen Reds may have to watch again as GH is always terrific, IMO.
Have not seen RSRD, so will put it on "the list"
thanks for posts-

Oh Panic! I loved his acting skills before but oh my, he was so creepy and real and horrifying. That was a fabulous movie, I have watched it several times on HULU.com.
Ditto the rest. NK was unusally good in that role, IMO and MR was just so endearing.
Rip Torn in "Defending Your Life" with Albert Brooks & Meryl Streep.
He steals the show........
