Hi Everyone. I am getting closer to be in the market for a new bike. I have owned a CBR 650 10 years ago (I am 37 now) and currently trucking around on a 150cc scooter due to financial issues. I have had the scooter for about 3 years now. I really, really like the 'Busa, lol. But I also like the Ninja, GSXR and, obviously, the CBR. Which bike would be in my better interests and also be a great bike for me? (I NEVER underestimate a bikes power. I have the utmost respect, and have to, to ensure ultimate survival) Any, and all, advice/opinions are welcome! Thanks
Well, what are you planning on doing with this bike? Commuting? Weekend warrior corner apexing? Hanging out at Starbucks and posing? Hopping from bar to bar to bar? Getting off pavement and into the dirt?
Then, what kind of budget do you have? Does that number include maintenance if not enough for new? Got all your gear already?
I can sorta sense which way this is going... as a preemptive thing, you should Really set aside ~$500 for 2 or 3 trackdays where you can explore Your limits on whatever sportbike you decide on. Seriously, it's easily the best money I've spent with the most reward. And hey, it'll make you a better rider and probably a SLOWER rider on the street.... mostly because it will seem much more hazardous and less fun.
And despite your scooter experience, give yourself a weekend of doing MSF drills in some parking lot. You're going to be rusty, and that's the group that has the most accidents (statistically speaking).
I will be riding it every day. Commuting, biking events, able to ride it on the highways, etc. No off road really and definitely no crazy riding. I already have all the gear I'll need, I actually use it riding my scooter (it can reach 63 mph) too. I know I'm rusty which is why i'm asking advice/opinions of others. I am not a poser tho. I have ridden in the past and still do (if scooter counts cuz it is 2 wheels) but there's a little fear in me that would keep me from going to fast. My biggest thing to work on would be having to use a clutch and shift again. But even now, I stay at least 2 car lengths behind the car in front of me so I have time to slow down and stop if anything were to happen.
I started on 81 Honda CX500 back in 1981. I bought a 2002 Honda Shadow 1100 in 2010. A few year later my wife was flirting with the Shadow and wanted me to get a larger bike so she could ride the Shadow. I was looking at Harleys and Indians when she found and reminded me about Valkyries. I had considered them my ultimate bucket list bike. So now I ride a 1998 Honda Valkyrie 1520.
Hondas are tanks, they take a beating and with little normal maintenance they keep rolling.

They're definitely nice bikes, but I not really a cruiser kinda gal right now, lol.
