Well priced, parts are super cheap (according to what I've read), and it's expected you'll be wrenching it yourself (awesome).
If I didn't just pick up a KTM, I'd be all over it.
What KTM did you just pick up if I may ask? I love the look and specs of the 390 and 690 Dukes and find the 690 Enduro equally intriguing in the Dual Sport category.

LC640. It's like a plated dirt bike. Haven't had the chance to ride it yet. I wouldn't mind the 390.
It's a solid Chinese bike that's been around for a lot of years. It's not going to win ANY speed contests. Compared to the current crop of 250 (and really more 300) starter bikes, it's pretty bad. That said it's cheap and durable so it depends what you're going at it for. I really wish Honda would make a CB300 in adventure trim but they don't.
-Yamaha XT250 Tenere-currently available outside of the US
-KTM baby adventure (based off Duke 390)
-Kawasaki Versys 300 (based off Ninja 300)
-Honda CB300X as mentioned above
-BMW G310GS (adventure trim of new 310 single coming out)
For the four grand they want for it, I'd find a well sorted KLR, and that will still be going long enough for the roaches to ride it after the end of the world.
When you say minimalist I think of the guys riding Kawasaki Super Sherpas all over the world. They're very scarce in the U.S. but known and loved the world over.
I'm talking about the RX3 Cyclone. I was made aware of this bike from a motorcycle podcast and can't help but be intrigued by it. I've been fascinated with smaller displacement motorcycles since seeing them prevalent in Latin America and noticed that currently there is nothing like this in the US market from the major manufacturers, (I think the smallest adventure bike available would be the Honda CB500X.) Anyway this bike is a fully equipped 250cc adventure bike built in China but distributed by a small outfit in CA called CSC Motorcycles. Anybody here know anything about this Company or the bikes they make? The price is very reasonable but I'd be concerned about finding local dealer support and parts. Most places around here will not touch anything built in China.

Old thread. That's been coming, not coming, coming, not coming for a while now. I'd put it at probably not coming. Better chance of the 660 Tenere coming back, and don't hold your breath on that one.
