Why does anyone care if someone else doesn't wear a helmet? If you want to wear one wear it. I don't ride but I don't see a point in wearing one as just riding a motorcycle alone is dangerous in itself. If I was concerned for my safety I wouldn't ride one. Sure a helmet can safe a life at certain speeds but why force someone to wear one? Again, if you feel more comfortable, wear one. Its kind of like someone saying its stupid to not wear your helmet yet they smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day. To each his own.
I was just thinking.......I've never had someone that doesn't wear a helmet try and convince me that their way was better. Seems they are indeed more likely to make their choices and allow others to do the same.
My feelings on wearing or not wearing a helmet is just a matter of that I love riding and if I go down it greatly increases my chances of riding tomorrow. I don't care if anyone else wears a helmet or not.
I've ridden with and without a helmet. However as I ride sport bikes I usually go with a helmet. However, people are far too invested in what other people's choices are. If someone wants to ride without any gear then fine by me. I couldn't careless. I have a life.
I live by a busy intersection and I've been the one jogging towards the downed rider with a first-aid kit (I have a really good kit now) more times than I care to count at this time. I think it's fair to say that on the whole, I'd rather not have an encounter someone who left his face on the pavement. On that basis, I do care a bit. (The guy who left his leg in chunks was bad enough.)

That doesn't mean you should push for any legal law for helmets (a general you here). Now that's your business to help a rider. I wouldn't but that's my business. If you don't want to encounter someone who left his face on the pavement then don't. Keep going on with whatever you were doing.

I don't want to encounter downed rider at all, but that's not my choice. As for helping out, well - there's not an ethical system in the world that doesn't speak pretty harshly of those who can help but don't. So there I am. The rider's decision does influence me.
Years ago when I was just a young man trying to teach myself to ride a honda shadow around my brother's neighborhood I was flagged down by a Harley guy. He showed me his garage and his collection of tiny low coverage helmets and then tried to instruct me about not using a full face because "when you go down, you hit the chin and instantly snap your neck".
Since I was a well read young man, I thanked him and went on my way knowing full well, he was wrong. I now live in a no helmet state and no longer ride much anymore because my hands go numb after 5 minutes of riding due to carpal tunnel (I guess). There are plenty of helmetless riders here.
My son wants to claim my Street Triple R as his when he starts riding in a few years but I want to sell it before he learns to ride.
He can have my 1980 cb750c and will have to get a new full face helmet.
