The dying wish of an Ohio motorcycle aficionado that he be buried astride his beloved Harley-Davidson was fulfilled by his family -- although it wasn't easy.
Billy Standley's body was prepped by five embalmers with a metal back brace and straps, The Dayton Daily News reported. He was affixed on top of his bike – a 1967 Electra Glide cruiser-- which was then placed inside a Plexiglas casket. For five years, the box stayed in Standley's garage, one of his sons told the newspaper.
Dad's body sat on a bike out in the garage for 5 yrs? Am I reading that right?
Leave the bike to your son, let him ride it or sell it.
Nah, i think it was just poorly worded. The reporter spoke to one of Standley's sons who stated that "dad had a casket in his garage for 5 years".
It's cool - whatever floats your boat I guess. What he should have done is require his casket/body be exhumed at 10 year increments to see how he and the Harley are decaying...or install a camera and light so we can all watch. Morbid, but it'd be an interesting experiment...least to some extent.
What's really sad is that some idiot will probably try to dig up the grave and steal the cycle.
I didn't even think about that. Give a bike thief the opportunity to stoop to a new low, yeah, that's a pretty good prediction they'll seize the opportunity.
I kinda like strange funerals and wakes. This isn't nearly as strange but recently went to a wake where CCR was playing. Normally its awkward silence or bad elevator music, thought that was a nice change of pace.
I guess the ole saying "You can't take it with you" doesn't apply here
