Suzuki 650. Can be had for a song, used.
A twin, handles like a dream. Taste great, less filling !!!

Torquey twins are really fun on back roads. I4 sportbikes are too much for a beginning rider to learn the basics of cornering and stuff like that on. The rush they provide on the straights is fun and all, but in my worthless opinion, not enough to base a purchase on. But, to each their own
I'm not exactly a beginner, but i'm not a super experienced rider. I've only got 5 years of riding under me. I didn't ride, but I sat on a I think it was a Honda 919 that seemed to have the same stance as a SV650 and it still wasn't for me. I do always hear people talking about how great the SV650 is though.

I am hoping to get out to a track with my next bike though. I never had leather pants so I was never able to take my previous one out so I'm going to pick up some so I can finally get that experience. I don't care about winning, or even being competitive, just going out there and being able to do the things I can't on the city streets!

I figured I would update this with experience.

I just went to the aprilia dealer and they wouldn't allow me to test drive the RSV4, but they would let me test drive the turouno. The reasoning is Insurance liability and that the buyers of the RSV4 generally like to have 0 miles on them when they buy.

Also, the RSV4 is beautiful. I know what bike I'm going to be buying. 70bhp more and 20 pounds lighter than my previous bike. Can't beat that!

Agreed. Great bikes for beginner and experienced alike. They're good for beginners because they dont have that "scare the pants off you/millenium falconish" speed that a GSXR has and experienced trackday junkies and club racers love them because they're cheap and because you can ride the snot out of them without chewing up back tires or having to worry about high siding.

Just sold my 01'
