If you use it as debit card, the merchant pays fees to the bank. If you use it as credit card, the merchant pays to Visa/Master card. (That's why your bank insists on using it as debit card.)

Strange...When I buy fuel at the local truck stop...they never ask debit or credit...just run it through,thats it. when you go to a big box store...they want everything, drivers lisence, picture ID, codes on the card, thats if I say the word " credit".
