single mom first time home buyer usda (loan officer, approved, credit score)

I am a single mom of a 10 year old son, I'm looking to buy our first home and was wondering about how difficult it is to be approved for a usda loan? I am not a wealthy lady I make about $1700.00 a month after taxes and recieve no child support or any other income or help but am tired of throwing away money on rent. I have been working hard to improve my credit score and have gotten my low score just above 620. I live in Texas any advice would be appreciated!

USDA has two programs, Direct and Guaranteed. Chances are you are better suited for Direct, but that loan program is handled without a loan officer, only directly with USDA. Direct is a very low rate program for low income households. I would start here: USDA Rural Development-TX_SFH.html
