Hello,

I am a first-time home buyer, and I have 10% down payment saved up and have great credit. I want to do 30 year-fixed. I have heard of alternatives to paying PMI. Can I do 80/10/10 to avoid PMI? Do lenders still offer this kind of loan? I have also heard of single premium mortgage insurance. I'm looking for houses around $200,000.
Would it best for me to stick with PMI? Or 80/10/10, or single premium mortgage insurance? I am definitely going to talk with many different lenders to get my options, but I would like to be as educated as possible in this. Thanks

Either way. It depends on how fast you can pay off the 2nd, how much the up-front PMI, or hybrid, or monthly, might cost.

You have done some great research, and have set specific options. Your lender should be able to lay out the numbers for you.

If you want to play with PMI options, use the calculator/rate finder on this site: www.radian.biz
